The Little Known Benefits Of Working For The Government -

The Little Known Benefits Of Working For The Government - Governments are some of the world’s biggest employers. These organisations take on huge amounts of people in all sorts of fields, ranging from politics right the way through to construction and buildings, and this makes them a great place for anyone looking for a job to start their hunt. Of course, though, what exactly are the benefits of working for a group like this instead of getting a normal job? To help you out, this post will be exploring this area, giving you an idea of what you stand to gain from a role in this field. Financial Future Along with offering good salaries while you’re doing the job, working for your local government can provide for your finances long after you’ve left. These roles are often some of the most generous when it comes to areas like pensions, health care, and insurance, making them great for anyone who doesn’t want to have to worry about these areas as they go into the future. Of course, this is all work which you should be thinking about, and having it handled by your boss will only make it easier. Professional Future There are a lot of jobs out there which require qualifications when you first get started out. Once you’re into them, though, it can take a very long time for them to get anywhere, with the work you’re doing only good for the time you spend in the same role. With a government position, though, you could start on the road with an online civil engineering masters degree, only to find yourself with something much greater after a few years go by. It’s rare that you will find employers willing to do this, nowadays. Public Holidays It can be easy to let public holidays slip by when you’re in a lot of normal jobs, with the work only stopping for the most important events. Governments don’t work on any of these days, though, and this means that you will be getting a lot more time off throughout the year than you’re used to. Of course, this comes with a negative side, as you won’t get paid quite as much, but this will be worth it if you have a family. For The Resume Most people don’t stay in the same role forever, and will want to look for something new after a few years have gone by. Your resume plays a very large part in your success during a process like this. There are few better ways to improve this sort of document than working for a government, with people finding it easier to trust those who have go this experience, while also providing you with a reference with everyone will recognise. There are loads of reasons to go for a job with the people running your local area. A lot of people ignore these benefits, though, choosing to spend their life working for normal companies. When you have the chance to do something better, it will always be worth taking it, even if you have to do more work along the way.

The Importance of Focusing While in Transition - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The Importance of Focusing While in Transition - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I for one fully understand those in transition. I’ve been there at times myselfand for way too long. Life for the unemployed is hugely confusing. The quasi life equilibrium that used to exist before the transition period has been lost. And everybody you know seems to want to be helpful by giving you (nonprofessional) advice, which can add another layer of confusion to your bewilderment, thereby causing further disorientation. So, what’s the best thing to do to get back on track, get a job, and reach a life balance again? The answer may seem too simplistic: FOCUS. You’ve probably heard the cliché “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re going nowhere.” How true, so therefore you need a path, a direction, and a huge amount of mental energy to stay focused on the right things. The following (professional!) advice is paraphrased from a recent networking presentation given by my friend Abby Kohut (http://absolutelyabby.com/), who’s one of the smartest people I know in this business. Thirty percent of your time should be spent in live networking. Sixty to 80 percent of people get their jobs via networking. Think about how you got your last job: probably by talking to someone who put you in touch with others, and the next thing was an interview. Another 30 percent of your time should be spent on applying for jobs online, generating leads, and communicating via e-mail. Twenty percent of your time should be spent on volunteering. It is critical for your mental health simply to be with people, to get involved, and to get exposure. The last 20 percent of your time should be spent doing things for yourself. People are like batteries: periodically, they need to be recharged. In order to project to the hiring manager via the interview that you are the ideal candidate, you have to feel good about yourself. So, whatever makes you feel that way, do it! By following these guidelines, staying focused, and cultivating perseverance, you’ll be handsomely rewarded with a job you deserve.

What to Know About Your Resume

What to Know About Your ResumeThere are many elements that make up a perfect resume. However, the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you have a good resume description. Before you can get started on a resume, you need to have a strong and creative description. It doesn't matter if you can't write your own or if you are not a writer, you will still need to create one of these descriptions in order to ensure that you get it right. When you are creating a resume, the main thing you need to remember is that you have to be professional. This means that you don't want to come across as a flamboyant resume writer. You are going to have to come across as professional and laid back, and it is this professional attitude that will get you across when you are writing your description. You want to try and keep your description as brief as possible. The more detailed you are, the more of an impression you are going to make on the company that is reviewing your resume. You also don't wan t to go overboard either, so keep it simple and don't try and be too fancy. At the same time, remember that your resume is a reflection of who you are, so you can't go too over the top. If you overdo it, you might end up looking unprofessional.Another good thing to remember is that there is a specific job that you need to focus on when creating your resume. Remember that the company has many different things to think about before making a decision, so it is very important that you focus on the specific job you are applying for. By focusing on one particular career, you will be able to make your resume stand out from the rest.Once you know what job you are aiming for, you will need to take a look at the company's job positions that are available. The information you find out about the company and what positions they have open will help you come up with an interesting description. What you want to do is to focus on what you can do for the company as well as the position that you are a pplying for.Don't forget to include yourself when you are listing your accomplishments, because you want to make sure that you leave some room for yourself to be included in your description. Do remember that people remember what they don't see. They will always remember the part that is not visible, so try to use that as much as possible. People are visual, so they are more likely to remember a statement that they saw on your resume rather than one that was written.Try to list all of your accomplishments at least once, but it may be a good idea to use a review site to help you. You can also go back and review your resume with a professional to make sure that it is well-written and needs no changes. A professional can also help you create a great resume description. Don't just settle for what is available; make sure that you have a job description that includes the skills you have for the job.Make sure that you know what you want to say about yourself and make sure that you include everything that you want to say. Take some time to make sure that the description you choose is something that is unique and doesn't sound like the rest of the resumes that are out there. Then, you can put together a resume that is fit for a specific job. This is one of the best ways to ensure that you get the job that you applied for and get it quickly.

The Slippery Slope of Personal Information Online and Sites That Profit From It - CareerEnlightenment.com

In October of 2013, Google announced an algorithm change that downgraded the many different mug shot websites that structure themselves for the practice described above. Google is allowed to alter their results and change their algorithm at will, but some question if targeting specific sites that are not doing anything that is technically illegal is the “right” thing to do.Granted, these sites are not spreading positivity and what they do is bordering on crossing the line of privacy, as well as extortion. So it is not like anyone (other than the site owners) wants them around making money off of people’s misfortune. Mastercard has also frowned upon this activity and has stopped allowing them to accept Mastercard as a form of online payment. However, the question still remains, should Google be dictating what we can and cannot see in search results? If they curb these types of websites, then who’s next?Manage Your Own Online ReputationAt the very least, Google’s ranking smack down of mug shot websites means that it will be easier for you to control your online information and build the reputation that you want to be known for in your professional career. Here are some tips for taking control of your own search results and having an excellent showing the next time a potential employer “Googles” you.Fill Out Social Media Profiles:  Even though most of your social media channels are private and only your “friends” can see what you post, the profile section is still public. Fill in all the fields and use a professional looking photo. Your profile photo is public and can be seen by anyone.Get Your Free Personal Websites:  There are several different websites  like About.Me and ItsMyURLs that are free.  Set yourself up with each of them and fill in all of the fields they ask for. Add in as much personal and professional details that you want everyone to see. Remember these are public web pages, not private social profiles.Update Your Google Profile:  Your Google profile is now attached to Google Plus and that should be filled out completely with as much information as you can think of, make yourself look professional. You never know which connection might help you get a job.Take Full Advantage of LinkedIn:  LinkedIn is the professional social network. Your other social channels can keep up appearances for you, but LinkedIn is where you can network, post your resume, and many people find jobs there. If youd like to attract top employers to your LinkedIn profile, check out Joshuas LinkedIn Writing Service.

Career Events Something you might not have thought of, and might not have ever been to unless it was at school. But what is stopping you from going to something like this? It’s a great way of being able to get all the knowledge you need about different career paths, and using them to your advantage. You could spend the day listening to talks, talking to people, and gathering information on a range of different careers. All it takes is just one of those careers to catch your eye, and you could send yourself down a new path that you never thought you would be on. You usually don’t have to pay to go to these either which is always a bonus! The People Around You Finally, you should really rely on the people around you at your career. Life is too short to be suffering in silence on your own at your job, so if you ever find yourself struggling, talk to your colleagues. No doubt you probably already hear them moaning about the same things as well, so rally together and try and do something about it. The more people you have around you to rely on, the happier you’re going to be in your role!
